Global precipitation is rising and with it flood related incidents. Flooding accounts for 43% of the world's natural disaster affecting more than half of the population around the world accounting for about 17.44 billion USD. It is therefore important to have some way of mitigating the losses.
The river monitor device is a IoT device which can help in monitoring the condition of our river or stream. It can be placed upstream at some distance from town or cities to alert everyone if there is a coming heavy river flow or for just continuous monitoring.
Imagine if you have several devices installed on rivers surrounding your town or city, you can map where your water supply comes from, improve downstream water quality by identifying location of poor water quality, and possibly find some anomalous activities upstream due to changes in river changes. Architecture
The architectural system is very simple and has good durability. powered by a powerbank that is charged from solar energy. This system is able to provide emergency information quickly and directly to the surrounding residents. in addition, this tool can also monitor environmental pollution the monitoring system can be accessed publicly on this website
Components
The level sensor is found inside the tube. At the bottom end of the tube is the turbidity sensor. The speed sensor is housed on the fish found at the bottom of the device which rotates following the flow of water. All the wires run in the inside wall of the tube upward to the opening a the very top. Only the rain sensor is found in the board box located on top tilted at a certain angle.
The arduino, sigfox, power bank and the additional board for the turbidity is found in the board box. The power bank uses a solar cell to charge so its cell is located at the top face of the box.
The entire device is waterproofed
